- The request for the residenza is mandatory for the UE students, because they skip the application of the residency permit at the Police Offices, but need to declare their permanent (meaning more than 3 months) presence in Italy.
- The request of residenza is highly recommended for extra-UE students because it allows the application for the Italian ID which allows to enter all the public administration websites since January 2022 onwards.
- SPID (the Italian Digital Identity tool) can be requested only when in possession of the Italian ID, so it can be useful to have it, considering you are hopefully going to live here for some years.
- This is different from the Residence Permit (Permesso di soggiorno)

- The procedure can be fully done by email or submitting hard copies of the documents at the Anagrafe, it is free and will require 30-40 days to be concluded.
- The request needs to submitted including the following documents: dichiarazione di residenza; assenso del proprietario; passport; tax code; residence permit (permesso di soggiorno); rent contract registered at the Agenzia delle Entrate.
- You will receive the first answer of "accoglimento dell'istanza" which means that they will work on your request.
- Within 30-45 days, an Officer will come and control you actually live at the address you have provided, then you will be registered at the Anagrafe de L'Aquila.
Sometimes you will receive a second email stating that your request has been accepted, however in some cases this does not happen. We suggest you to go to ask directly in the offices in this case.

- Assenso del proprietario form. It is a statement by the owner of the apartment, where they agree with the request. You need to ask the landlord to fill it in and provide the form with the copy of his/her own ID document. Any time you change address, you just need to remember to communicate the new address at the Comune and provide the new form and the new rental agreement with the registration to the Agenzia delle Entrate.
- Dichiarazione di residenza form. It is your request of residenza, where you provide your details and the address where you live. You can fill it with the PhD Secretariat if needed.
- List of the documents to attach - elenco documenti per iscrizione (passport, tax code, permesso di soggiorno, rental agreement with the registration to Agenzia delle Entrate, phd enrollment certification).
